I barely paid for my freshman year of college. I was 16 and lied about my age to get a job as an apprentice electrician, but that came to an end around tax time... I heard the National Guard helped pay for college, so off I went. A different time. I served for 15 years before 9/11 and 15 after. Two completely different worlds.
Well this makes me so glad I missed the draft during Vietnam. I would have gone, just like you did. I’m so thankful you stuck to your guns and served. The world is definitely a better place because of men like you! Thanks for sharing from the heart! Love and Hugs!
I feel like you for sure knew those two friends I mentioned too. Well I know most of us had been to your house for Aaron bands at least a few times haha.
This story made me smile before 7 AM and having my coffee That is an accomplishment! I wasn’t recruited and we didn’t call it MEPS but that part recalled my induction. I loved yourxstory of meeting the recruiter while in the dog house That made me laugh before 7–I saw it in my mind! Your description of the recruiter made me think that you could have captioned this one: The Devil Wears Starched Camouflage!
Haha that’s a much better title. I’ll admit I get lazy with titles. I took two of worth’s “fire drill” prompts and combined them to make this with some tweaks. Had one of those “what the heck do I write this week” moments and remembered I had the bones of this. Glad it made you laugh. Truth is much stranger than fiction.
This definitely made me smile. Thank you for carrying through what you had signed up to do.
Thank you for your service & your sacrifices.
Thank you for reading!

Crazy how fast everything changed
